Sports Rehabilitation Twickenham

What is sports rehabilitation?

Sports rehabilitation is the practice of working with people of all ages to maintain or regain physical fitness. As such it involves diagnosing and treating pain, dysfunction or injury related to the musculoskeletal system. This includes numerous issues such as: back pain and neck pain; knee pain e.g. ITB pain, patella-femoral pain, meniscal tears; bursitis; tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow; carpal tunnel syndrome; ankle sprains; and plantar fasciitis.

Understanding your issue?

To obtain an accurate understanding of your issue I begin by listening to your story from my studio in Twickenham. The resulting conversation informs the direction of a thorough physical assessment and diagnosis. This is the same process as that utilised by other clinicians such as osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists and is underpinned by clinical processes I’ve learned and tested to Masters level.

Treatment

Our treatment in Twickenham is normally a mix of manual therapy techniques such as sports massage and joint mobilisation followed by the prescription of a series of suitable rehabilitative exercises. If you want to feel better this combination is extremely effective rather than just pursuing manual therapy or exercise on their own. This is especially true in the early stages of working on an issue. In time, however, as the pain decreases and function improves we might expect to see a reduced usage of manual therapy techniques.

We’ll go through the spcific exercises I suggest together, so that you have a good understanding of what you need to do in your own time. Additionally, I’ll email these exercises to you alongside instructions on how many you should complete and how often. Most clients will need at least one follow up session but one objective is to get you as self-sufficient as possible. To help facilitate this I’ll check in via email to ensure you’re getting on well between visits.
